Pastor Lino Arabe Molina, First President of the Filipino – Australian Association of the Northern Territory (FAANT), passed away last Sunday, 24 April 2016. He is the Loving husband of Cynthia, Father of Meleene, Felino, Sonny, Sue, Tess and Marlo Grandfather to 17 and Great Grandfather to 10 Children, Always in our hearts, For me, to live is Christ and to die is gain (Philippians1:21)

Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, 30 April 2016 at 10:00 am, at the Multicultural Christian Fellowship Centre, 2 Earhart Crt cnr Batten Road, Marrara.

Wake follows at 12:00 pm at the Filipino Community Centre, 4 Batten Road, Marrara.

Preparing for a Cyclone

The Multicultural Council of the Northern Territory (MCNT), the local peak body and service provider for migrants and refugees, is hosting this free information session presented by the Northern Territory Emergency Service and the Bureau of Meteorology on Friday afternoon 29th November 2013, 3.00 pm to 4.30 pm, at the MCNT Community Room, (Shop 15 Malak Shopping Centre, Malak Place).

This information session will assist people newly arrived to Darwin with knowing what to do when a cyclone watch or warning is issued and how to protect friends, visitors, pets and property during a cyclone. There will be various topics covered including preparing their home before the cyclone, what you need for your emergency kit, and when and where to go for shelter.

The Northern Territory Emergency Service has a web site about cyclones at: http://www.pfes.nt.gov.au/Emergency-Service/Public-safety-advice/Cyclones.aspx. There is useful information in the 2013 Cyclone Survival Guide published by the NT News, which we will have available and is also online at: http://ntnews.newspaperdirect.com/epaper/viewer.aspx.

English Language Learning Program

The City of Darwin Libraries are pleased to announce we have purchased a licence to an English language learning program called 'Road to IELTS'. The program is FREE to library members and is accessible from the Library computers as well as from other computers with internet access. There are two versions of the program, an Academic version for those wishing to take the IELTS test and a general version for those wishing to improve their English language skills.

The City Library will hold a demonstration of the program on Thursday 14 November at 11.30am. They would like to show you how the program works and you will have the opportunity to try it yourself. Community Status Resolution Service (CSRS)

The role of the CSRS is to work with people in Australia to resolve their immigration status. This includes working with clients who have overstayed their visa, have had a visa refused or cancelled or have been granted a Bridging visa E (BVE) while their immigration status is resolved. CSRS officers work with clients and provide clear and personally relevant information about a person's situation and their visa or departure options, so people can make informed decisions.

There are two dedicated Community Status Resolution Officers located, in Darwin. We would like to arrange a suitable time where we could meet with you and members of your community to provide further general information about the service and/or address any specific issues individuals may have in relation to their immigration status.

    PAL launches new routes to Australia

    Pursuing an aggressive route expansion, flag carrier Philippine Airlines (PAL) today announced the launching of flights to six (6) new destinations in Australia, China and the Middle East.

    PAL president Ramon S. Ang said PAL‟s new destinations are Kuala Lumpur (May 1); Brisbane, Darwin and Perth in Australia and Guangzhou, China (June 1); and Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (October 1).

    Savings Seminar and Financing for Bridging Course for Nurses

    The Embassy has recently linked an agreement with Commbank and Philippines Australia Business Council to provide free savings and investment literacy seminars for overseas Filipino communities in Australia, particularly 457 visa holders

    Filipino communities wishing to get the seminar series into their localities may contact Atty. Jalilo Dela Torre at the Philippine Embassy in Canberra through 0418356888 or polocanberra@y7mail.com. Basically, the Filipino community's responsibility would be to gather at least thirty participants (at least ten 457 visa holders; those applying for permanent residency and those who are already permanent residents). Pre-organized Filipino community events may also be a venue for the seminar, which does not go for more than one hour, or even social events, such as parties and barbecues.
